TIMELESS SŎN (ZEN)

THE WAY OF DAILY-LIVES MEDITATION

Timeless Sŏn(Zen) is the way of practicing meditation at all times, every day. It is not only the way to maintain a peaceful, focused, and right state of mind, but it is also a way to use our original mind well in our daily activities. Authentic practice begins with realizing our true nature, and based on that realization, we practitioners cultivate our original mind through meditation. The fruit of being enlightened to and nurturing our original mind is the ability to use our minds properly to enrich our lives.

WON BUDDHISM

THE GRACE IN THE WORLD WE LIVE

Won Buddhism was established by Great Master Sotaesan in Korea in 1916 with the founding motto: “As material civilization develops, cultivate spi-ritual civilization accordingly.” Won Buddhism shares main tenets and aspects with Mahayana Buddhism, one of the two major traditions of Buddhism. At the same time, it has built on and developed Mahayana Buddhism with the following tenets:

Materialism is a fact we cannot avoid. However, as contemporary society becomes increasingly materialistic, technologically advanced, and globally integrated, it is critical to develop our spirituality in equal measure.

ABOUT
OUR CENTER

The mission of the Sotaesan Center is to provide the space for one’s nurturing holistic well-being and spiritual growth.

To realize that goal, in this era when human minds could lose equilibrium by heavily depending on material civilization, the Sotaesan Center is creating a spiritual community where people from all walks of life study mind and dharma, practice and work together, regardless of their faiths, in order to enlighten their minds and to develop their spirituality.

MEDITATION &
MIND STUDY

Meditation is a practice that, in the mind, calms wandering thoughts and manifests the true nature. It is also a method that, in the body, causes the fire energy to descend and the water energy to ascend. As delusive thoughts are calmed, the water energy will ascend; as the water energy ascends, the delusive thoughts will be calmed. Consequently, one’s body and mind will be in perfect harmony, and both the spirit and energy will be refreshed.
